Here in New York, the month of February is the dead of winter and temperatures are dropping. However, on the other side of the hemisphere, the sun is shining brightly in Sri Lanka. It’s a great time to go for a winter getaway.

Events:
Annual Navam Perahera in Colombo
What is it? It is a grand cultural pageant that showcases elephants, drummers, and dances. It is a well-planned event to bring in joy to thousands of locals and visitors. Where is it? In Colombo, it will start at the Gangaramaya Temple and around Viharamahadevi Park and South Beira Lake. When is it? It will take place on February 9 & 10 at 7 pm.
69th Independence Day Parade
What is it? A parade that celebrates the time when Sri Lanka gained independence from Great Britain with the Prime Minister and President of Sri Lanka. Where is it? The main celebration will take place in Galle Face Green, Colombo (may be subjected to change). When is it? It will take place on February 4, 2017, at 8:30 am (as of last year).

Parks/Wildlife:
Most parks are open all year round, however, these are the ones that are at the peak of the season (ones with the highest chance of seeing animals): Bundala, Uda Walawe, Sinharaja, Yala, and Wilpattu. Dolphins and whales could be spotted near Mirissa and near Kalpitiya.
